The word Baglamukhi is derived from sanskrit word “valgā” meaning “bridle” and “mukha” means “face”. Thus, the name means one whose face has the power to attract or control. This goddess has the power to hypnotize. She has a golden complexion and wear yellow clothes. She has unique specialities and also known by the name of “Pitambara”.
In ancient books, there is a description about ten ‘Mahavidya’s’ who use to stay always with Lord Shiva.
काली, तारा, महाविधा: षोडसी भुवनेश्वरी, भैरवी छिन्नमस्ता विधा: धूमावती तथा |
बगला सिद्ध विधाच मातंगी कमलात्मिका, एता दशमहा विधा: सिद्ध विधा: प्रकीर्तिता: |
काली, तारा, षोडसी भुवनेश्वरी, त्रिपुर भैरवी, छिन्नमस्ता, धूमावती, बगलामुखी, मातंगी, कमला(लक्ष्मी) – ये दशों महाविधायें संसार के प्रत्येक क्षेत्र में सृष्टि रचना, नियन्त्रा, आकर्षण संहार आदि में अपना विषेश महत्व रखती हैं |
इन विधाओ में भी दो कुल हैं | (१) काली कुल (२) श्रीकुल
“Atharva-Ved” has Devi Bagla description in various ‘Sutras’.
In “Yajurved”, ‘Kanva’, ‘Tetriye’, ‘Kaathak’ and ‘Metrayani’ has description about Devi-Bagla. and was described as Vaishnavi Shakti or Vishnu-shakti.
In Bhagwatgita, chapter 3/43 and 10/42 has description about devi-baglamukhi.
In “Kaliyug”, If any person do Bhagwati-baglamukhi worship with true heart he will surely get both the powers of Bhakti and Shakti.
Baglashakti
The creator of Yogadarshan, Lord Patanjali has described about Para- Pashayanti-Madhyama-Vaikhari . These are the four arms of Maa Baglamukhi. The first arm has ‘gada’ which is the form of ‘vyakta-vak’. Second arm has “Vajra” which is vag-vajrarupini and destroy unconsciousness. Third arm has “Paash” which is the form of purified “Vak”. The fourth arm has “Jihvarup sthool vak” which is “Varundevotmak”. This symbolize the control of “Rasendriya” and “Vagendriya”.
Maa Baglamukhi has golden complexion which symbolize the safety and prosperity, this produces earth emotions. The earth element has stationary feelings hence Baglamukhi also called “Sthir Stabdh” and “Sthiromukhi”. This is also “Vedoswarupini” who has the knowledge of Vedas. Maa wears golden earring which gives “Bhog” and “Moksha”.
